NetLogic Microsystems to Benefit from Alcatel-Lucent’s Contract with Verizon Wireless for Ongoing Network Expansion and Transition to an All-IP Network

NetLogic Microsystems’ Knowledge-Based Processors Have Been Designed into Multiple Alcatel-Lucent CDMA2000®, IP Networking and Wireless Switching Products That Will Be Deployed by Verizon Wireless for Quad-Play Network Expansion

NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: NETL], the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced that its knowledge-based processors have been incorporated into multiple Alcatel-Lucent product families that are being or will be deployed by Verizon Wireless to accelerate its transition to an all-IP network, and expand its already successful portfolio of multimedia and data services.

This week, Verizon Wireless and Alcatel-Lucent announced a three-year agreement under which Alcatel-Lucent will supply a wide variety of network equipment, software and services to support Verizon Wireless’ network expansion. Verizon Wireless aims to offer faster speeds for Internet access, deliver voice services over its data network and make it easier to watch videos on mobile handsets.

NetLogic Microsystems’ market-leading knowledge-based processors have been designed into a broad range of Alcatel-Lucent product families, including the 7750 Service Router for IP routing and Ethernet aggregation, the Flexent® Mobile Switching Center with support for CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Revision A, the Flexent Packet Services Switch, and the LambdaUnite® MultiService Switch. NetLogic Microsystems is currently the leading supplier of knowledge-based processors to Alcatel-Lucent.

Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide infrastructure solutions spanning its entire portfolio to transition Verizon Wireless to an all-IP network. Verizon Wireless’ CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Revision A network will be expanded and enabled to support services such as VoIP with quality of service, and multimedia services that combine voice, video and data capabilities.

The high-performance knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems have been selected due to the unmatched performance, large database capacity, small package footprint and the industry’s lowest power consumption. The knowledge-based processors play a central role in accelerating important functions for quad-play networks such as quality-of-service (QoS), billing, packet filtering and high-quality video delivery. This allows mobile operators and carriers to significantly enhance the efficiency of bandwidth and network resources for quad-play carrier networks.

“We’re excited that our industry-leading knowledge-based processors are being used to help enable the delivery of bandwidth-intensive applications such as high-definition IPTV, VoIP and tiered Internet access over next-generation Verizon Wireless networks,” said James McDermott, director of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. “Through our close collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent, we continue to deliver innovative and leading-edge products and technologies that drive higher performance and next-generation feature sets such as high-quality video delivery for mobile operators.”

NetLogic Microsystems currently ships a wide variety of knowledge-based processors to multiple programs and divisions at Alcatel-Lucent, including the NL6512, NL6256, NL5512, NL5256, NL4512, NL4256, NL3128GLM, NLNSE10256, NLNSE10128, NLNSE70128, NLNSE70064 and NLNSE70032. In addition, other advanced knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems are being designed into next-generation Alcatel-Lucent products. Alcatel-Lucent is currently NetLogic Microsystems’ second largest customer, representing ten percent of total revenue in the fourth quarter of 2006.

About NetLogic Microsystems

NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL - News), a fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Mountain View, California, designs, develops and markets high performance knowledge-based processors for a variety of advanced wireline and mobile wireless networking systems, such as routers, switches, wireless infrastructure equipment, network security appliances, network access equipment and networked storage devices. NetLogic Microsystems’ knowledge-based processors employ an advanced processor architecture and a large knowledge or signature database containing information on the network, as well as applications and content that run on the network, to make complex decisions about individual packets of information traveling through the network. Knowledge-based processors from NetLogic Microsystems significantly enhance the ability of networking original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), to supply network service providers with systems offering more advanced functionality for the Internet, such as high-definition video delivery over the Internet (IPTV), voice transmission over the Internet (VoIP), unified threat management (UTM), virtual private networks (VPN), rich content delivery over mobile wireless networks, and streaming video and audio.
