Finnish Computer Security Company Warns Of Virus

A Finnish computer security firm warned Sunday of a so-called e-mail worm called Luder-A or Tibs.jy that is spread with a New Year’s greeting. The worm has been sent as an attachment named “postcard.exe” (or similar) in e-mail messages with the subject line “Happy New Year!” subject (or similar), the company F-Secure said.

If a user opens the attached file, it tries to find e-mail addresses that it sends copies of itself to. The worm also tries to shut down the computer’s safety programmes, the company said.

The Finnish-based company listed the Luder virus-worm as a level 2 on its three-scale list, saying Luder was a moderate danger to computer systems.

F-Secure defines worms as “a computer program that replicates independently by sending itself to other systems.”
