Apple Computer’s All New MacBook

macbookCompleting its Intel-based portable pack, and riding on the success of its 17-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros, Apple Computer launched the all-new MacBook, touted as the world’s most advanced consumer notebook that features Intel’s Core Duo processor and a 13-inch glossy wide-screen display.

Around one-inch thin, the new MacBook promises to be up to five times faster than the iBook, and up to four times faster than the 12-inch PowerBook, thanks to Apple’s latest system architecture comprising a 667 MHz front-side bus and 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory expandable to 2GB.

The MacBook boasts a 13-inch glossy wide-screen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 that is said to be 79 percent brighter than the iBook and the 12-inch PowerBook.

Philip Schiller, senior vice president - worldwide product marketing, Apple Computer, said, “Apple began the transition to Intel Core Duo-based notebooks with its 15-inch MacBook Pro, and now we have completed the transition with the release of this new MacBook”

MacBook comes in three versions; the 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz MacBook in sleek White enclosures and the 2.0 GHz MacBook in a stunning Black enclosure.

Every MacBook features an in-built iSight video camera for video conferencing on-the-fly; iLife ‘06 for recording video Podcasts or iMovies; Apple’s break-through Front Row media experience that allows customers to enjoy digital content with the Apple Remote; etc.

Apple’s Gen-Next suite of digital lifestyle applications is dubbed iLife ‘06, and comprises iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand, and iWeb, which is a new application.

Besides, each new MacBook comes with the MagSafe Power Adapter that is specially designed for mobile users, making charging the notebook’s battery easy by magnetically coupling the power cord to the MacBook. The integrated Sudden Motion Sensor protects the hard drive in the event of a fall.

Connectivity features incorporated in the MacBook include built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking; built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11g WiFi for up to 54 Mbps fast wireless networking; built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate); two USB 2.0 ports; combination analog and optical digital audio input plus output ports; and mini-DVI video output for connecting up to a 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display.

Further, the MacBook comes with the latest release of Mac OS X version 10.4.6 “Tiger,” including Safari, Mail, iCal, iChat AV, Front Row, and Photo Booth, all running natively on Apple’s Intel-based notebooks.

MacBook is immediately available through all Apple Authorized Re-sellers. While the 1.83 GHz, 13-inch White MacBook is available for a maximum retail price of Rs 66,900; the 2.0 GHz, 13-inch White MacBook retails for a maximum price of Rs 77,800.

In a separate announcement, Apple Computer increased processor speeds on both models of its 15-inch MacBook Pro, delivering enhanced performance at no additional cost.
