Nintendo markets “brain games” to adults
Video game giant Nintendo has launched games aimed at adults and they claim the games will help ‘train your brain’. But will adults buy and play video games?
If you’re an adult you’ve probably been told that as you get older it’s important to keep your mind active with word puzzles, crosswords, and number games and now Nintendo has latched onto that idea, with its sub-brand “touch generations.”
It includes all sorts of adult mind games, played on it’s touch-screen ‘DS’ system and it’s clear from the website these games aren’t aimed at Nintendo’s typical younger generations.
“I think that’s extremely important, like I say, do the crossword and do some other little things to keep active,” said Valley resident Jim Merritt.
But the question is, can adults who are used to playing games like Sudoku and the crossword puzzle in the newspaper ever get used to playing them on a video game system? Many adults we spoke to say they’re not interested in video games.
“Well, I wouldn’t use them,” said John Eash.
“Probably not, I just never got into that new technology.”
But Nintendo claims that its math, logic, and word games will help improve mental sharpness. Some folks aren’t convinced.
“I think they’re just looking at different marketing techniques and different audiences you know a lot of these games are limited to a certain age group, and they need to expand that with the competition that they have.”
Only time will tell if these games prove to be a hit with the older crowd.
