Networking using one router as DHCP server & one as a client
All my PCs run XP Home. I had to upgrade the wireless adapter on one of the PCs in order to implement WPA-PSK security on it like my other computers (a laptop with built-in wireless card and a desktop PC wired to a Belkin 54G wireless router). Instead of replacing the USB adapter on the PC, I decided to use a ZyXel P-330W wireless router and set it as a Client, and attached the PC to it. I can get to the internet fine, as the ZyXel receives an IP from the main wireless router via DHCP.
I can’t seem to get that PC to be part of a workgroup network. I would like for the ZyXel-connected PC to be able to print to the printers attached to the wired desktop PC (sharing is enabled). I am having a problem getting the workgroup to show the ZyXel PC. Before I replaced the USB adapter, I was able to see the PC and send files back & forth between PCs wirelessly, and printer sharing worked fine.
I think using the router as a client rather than a simple USB adapter has added a layer of complexity to my wireless network, and I do not have the knowledge to configure additional settings. Do I need to assign an IP to the computer connected to ZyXel rather than DHCP, and then do something to “manually” set up a workgroup network? Or should XP still recognize the workgroup computers without any additional adjustments?
